KATHLEEN GREANEY

Born and raised in the Bronx, Kathleen Greaney native to New York. Currently, she is working and living in the Bronx. Kathleen is a contemporary painter and recently received her MFA from CUNY Lehman College. She works primarily with acrylics and watercolor paint.

The paintings are based in the tradition of landscape and informed by Climate Change and Global Warming. In addition, the work deals with the use of color and application of paint. Interest in making work that implies a contaminated environment is born of a time in which Climate Change is a real and imminent threat. Globally, we have seen aggressive changing weather patterns, growing amounts of super storms that are of catastrophic magnitude and numerous environmental disasters.

Content isn’t necessarily representational but alludes to a landscape that is teetering between what still appears to be a serene scape, but through the use of acidic and non traditional color and brushstroke, it evokes the feeling of something so alien from our own it might as well be another planet entirely.
